Science
EYFS Nursery pupils undergo themed
days in which science teaching is planned to meet and exceed
the standard required for the Foundation Stage of the National
Curriculum. The included topic "Knowledge and Understanding
of the World" encompasses subjects such as magnets,
cooking, time, growing, sand and seasons.
| After entering Pre-prep, pupils then work from Key Stage 1 of the National Curriculum to Stage 3 over a three-year period. This is intended to nurture a passion for the subject via practical work and investigations. Year 4 sees their first taste of the science laboratories, learning how to handle a Bunsen burner safely and exploring concepts in greater depth. Biology, Chemistry and Physics are all taught as individual subjects and come under the general title of Science. |
|
Emphasis in Preparatory is placed on "Do It" whenever possible. If not, "Watch It". Academic work is supported by field trips, external visits and lectures from visiting professionals. There is a rigorous revision programme.
Thus, Science is co-ordinated from the Nursery Department right through to Year 8 up to the high standards required for the Common Entrance Exam or Scholarships should they decide to take that path.
