Latin

Latin is seen as an enrichment lesson for the more able pupil. Study of the language and classical culture usually begins in Year 5 with the Minimus course, where great emphasis is placed on etymological links with French and English. Latin lessons play a great part in the drive for academic rigour in the senior department, but at all times the subject aims to be relevant and integral to modern languages education.

The two lessons of Latin a week are set against two timetabled lessons of well planned English and Maths for pupils not taking Latin.
