Art, Design and Technology

Art and Design takes place in a large purpose-built facility away from the main school building. A light and spacious art studio alongside clay and woodworking areas allow the children to experience a wide range of art topics from drawing, painting and collage to printmaking, textiles and sculpture. They express their ideas in whatever form that they choose, encouraging creativity and boosting confidence. Many of the results are impressive.

A variety of different materials are available, from wood, metal and composites to glass, plastic and textiles, fashioned using quality tools in a modern workshop. The children, through their time at the School, will have experience of producing electrical and mechanical devices, doing projects on food, energy and control mechanisms as well as more traditional woodwork and pottery.

Emphasis is placed on how this technology is applied in the wider world and the increased use of recycled materials.

Work is exhibited around the school and often at Senior School exhibitions. After the relative toil of traditional learning, there is nothing quite so rewarding at seeing and touching the tangible results of one’s own handiwork.
