Preparatory (years 6-8)
To reach the upper part of the school is the culmination of a prep school pupil's career : opportunities abound to participate in sports teams, drama productions, trips, concerts and activities not to mention academic lessons! The resulting confidence and sense of accomplishment is enough to set a youngster up for life. At Boundary Oak we prepare children to go up to their chosen senior school at the age of 13. We do not prepare children specifically for entry into local day schools age 11 but arrangements are in place with several good local schools where children can take entrance exams age 10/11 and have a place held open for them for year 9.
| The children in Preparatory are taught exclusively by subject specialists with both national curriculum as part of the planning and rigorous preparation for common entrance as key to success. The school has a very good record of placing children at a range of well regarded local day schools such as Portsmouth Grammar School, Portsmouth High, Churchers College and King Edwards. There is also a good selection of local boarding schools such as Hampshire Collegiate, St. John's and Lord Wandsworth College which have been popular |

over recent years. Old Bounders also go onto boarding schools further afield such as Canford, Sherbourne, Milton Abbey, Bradfield and Millfield.

When a child leaves at the end of their time in Preparatory we want them to have been busily involved in all the top end of the school has to offer. That could be sport, art, drama, trips, music, choral singing or a little bit of all of those. We believe that the opportunities that the older children have to hold key positions within the school are essential in preparing to take initiative and develop confidence in later life. All our Year 7 and 8 pupils are taught to cope with responsibility by being made prefects, house captains, librarians and ‘buddies’ to younger children. They could also have |
attained positions of responsibility through the prefect system. We want Boundary Oak children to leave us as decent people, interesting to talk to, with something to say but with the drive to want to do their bit to contribute to senior school life and then adult life beyond that.
